Quick by the numbers:
- Unemployment rate: unchanged at 8.2%
- May employment revised upward from 69,000 jobs to 77,000 jobs;
- June net jobs created at 80,000;
- Alternative measurement of unemployment (Table A15-U6) increased from 14.8% to 14.9%;
- Increase in weekly hours, by 0.1 hours to 34.5;
- Average hourly earnings increased $0.06 to $23.50;
- Participation rate remained the same, at 63.8%;
- ADP May employment revised upward from 133,000 to 136,000 jobs;
- ADP June shows a decent increase in jobs to 176,000;
I guess it depends on whose numbers you use -- either things are picking up, or it's same old, same old. And the disparity is the only reason why I blogged about it, because I doubt the media will cover it. And if it comes up, ADP uses double the sampling size of BLS.
