June employment: slight gain.

Quick by the numbers:
  • Unemployment rate: unchanged at 8.2%
  • May employment revised upward from 69,000 jobs to 77,000 jobs;
  • June net jobs created at 80,000;
  • Alternative measurement of unemployment (Table A15-U6) increased from 14.8% to 14.9%;
  • Increase in weekly hours, by 0.1 hours to 34.5;
  • Average hourly earnings increased $0.06 to $23.50;
  • Participation rate remained the same, at 63.8%;
  • ADP May employment revised upward from 133,000 to 136,000 jobs;
  • ADP June shows a decent increase in jobs to 176,000;
I guess it depends on whose numbers you use -- either things are picking up, or it's same old, same old.  And the disparity is the only reason why I blogged about it, because I doubt the media will cover it.  And if it comes up, ADP uses double the sampling size of BLS.
