Pearl District Safeway: The shakedown.

It's Girl Scout cookie season, and this year they've set up a table at one entrance at the Pearl District Safeway, while the other entrance is covered by homeless people / traveling hobos begging.

A warning: if you tell one particular homeless guy that you don't carry change (I don't, because I use my card) he'll laugh and tell you that he doesn't, either).

If you want to avoid a shakedown (and 100,000,000 calories), there is one entrance that has no beggars or sellers: from the parking structure.  Or, you can shop there in the morning.  I have to avoid the Girl Scouts, though...I'm a cookie monster and I will end up with 100,000,000 calories.

Speaking of Safeway, the quality of pies has really gone down the pie hole lately.  If it has cream (banana cream, coconut cream, etc) or meringue (lemon), the topping will slide off the pie's base and filling.  The filling tastes really weird, too.  The banana was a bit tart (that's not supposed to be tart, ever) and the lemon tasted moldy.

I might have to start buying treats from Whole Foods, instead.  Seriously, pie quality is bad at Safeway these days.  Oh, and apple turnovers are soggy and stale.

Even their mobile app sucks balls.  It's the one app that will consistently freeze up my phone; it's as if they're sending info back and forth between here and the dark side of the moon.

Okay, one more complaint.  Safeway Open Nature mild cheddar cheese is so soft, you can't even cut it with a cheese wire.  Tastes good, though.

On the plus side, Open Nature ice cream and Greek frozen yogurt are really good.  Also, once in a while the Open Nature skinless chicken breasts are $1.99 / pound.
