Republican Senator tells us what we already knew.

Via NBC News, Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) explained that the reason why his bipartisan firearms regulation bill failed:
"In the end it didn't pass because we're so politicized...There were some on my side who did not want to be seen helping the president do something he wanted to get done, just because the president wanted to do it."
But of course, we already knew that the GOP was a mess.

Having read the details of the bill, I can say that it was written not to appeal to liberals, but to appeal to conservatives, by curtailing the amount of time given for background checks, and by requiring that background check records be destroyed, following the check.

And it still failed to reach a filibuster-proof majority to reach a vote.

And what did Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) say about his 'no' vote?
"I hope the debate will be about violence, which is really the issue. What people are using to commit the violence with is important, but the fact that they are committing the violence is even more important, and I do think we need to have a more serious conversation about what's happening in our country."
In other words, Rubio wants Congress to stop violence, just as Republicans are demanding that the National Science Foundation cut social science spending.  Effing brilliant, huh?

But of course, we already knew that the GOP was a mess.
