That was a surprise! Barnes and Noble
announced that they would bring Google Play access to Nook HD / HD+ tablets, opening up the floodgate of apps for Nook users. It was a surprise because a big investor in Barnes and Noble's e-book (Nook) business is Microsoft, and this move is an acknowledgement that Google is integral and important in the success of tablets; the two (Microsoft and Google) are not exactly BFF.
Too bad they hadn't done this last year though. The one thing that held me back from considering a Nook HD / HD+ or an Amazon Kindle Fire / Fire HD, was the lack of apps and access to Google Play. With access to Google Play, the Nooks look a lot more attractive.

After...now with Google Play |
Consider, that now you have Gmail, Maps, Google Sky Maps (something that even Apple fans don't have), YouTube and, best of all, the Chrome browser that now gives you the ability to sync all your saved passwords and bookmarks. As much as I think highly of Amazon's Kindle Fire HD tablet, this is a game-changer...until Amazon comes out with newer, better tablets, that is.
