Well there you go...Microsoft is being Microsoft.

Microsoft is teaming up with Baidu to provide English translations for Baidu's search results.

There's a good reason why Google exited the Chinese market and ceded the market to Baidu, but Microsoft has no such moral qualms, or concerns about what it might lose as a result.  Seems to me, it all points to one thing:

Microsoft is no longer an American company, so it does not live by American values.  Global company with global values of profit at all costs.

As you can see, when Google left China, Microsoft was unable to capitalize. When it can't win market share on its own merits, Microsoft has chosen other means to find its market share.
