comScore smartphone trends: 2011 May US; 2011 March Japan.

Consolidated two different comScore reports for the efficiency of expressing a simple message: Google Android = WOW!  In Japan, it's clear that Apple is displacing other smart phones, while overall smartphone market growth is directly linked to Android's growth.

And then when you look at the US mobile market, Android continues a steady growth, while RIM and Microsoft see steady declines.

So I'm going to ask the obligatory question: what's happening to WP7 / Microsoft's market share?  There's eventually going to be a bottom, and then a bounce from Nokia's phones, but it's not clear how Nokia's phones will do in the US, considering they have practically no market presence these days.

It's no wonder Microsoft has been aggressively licensing IP royalties from Android manufacturers...its own WP7 product can't even keep pace with the defections to platforms away from Microsoft.
