Infamous George Zimmerman, whose bond was revoked after it was revealed that he had hid money earned from donations in his PayPal account, is in the news once again. This time, it's his wife who was arrested -- for perjury.
It turns out, she lied to the court when asked directly if she had the ability to pay for George's bail -she indicated that she didn't. What really happened is that she had moved money around including to George's sister's account, and had also withdrawn cash from their bank accounts and moved it into a security deposit box.
They were caught not just because George's lawyer told the court about the PayPal account, but also because of jail recordings of conversations between George and his wife, and their bank account records, showing that they had been actively trying to hide their net worth.
(On a side note, many very rich people do the same, when they offshore their money in certain countries.)
This really hurts George's case, insofar that when given the opportunity to tell the truth in the court room, he purposely tried to deceive the court.
Greed is a gateway vice...once you give in, you start lying and breaking laws.
