In a bout of amateur hour tantrums, Republicans have been holding back FAA funding, that resulted in the well-publicized lack of airfare taxes for the past several weeks. It turns out, their little tantrum was on $16M of subsidies for small airports across the nation, and Delta Airlines' fight with labor unionization.
Over a matter of $16M in spending and an attempt to block unionization to the benefit of Delta's CEO, Republicans permanently erased $30M a day in taxes being collected on airfares, for a total of $390M in revenues lost.
After the fact that Congress hit its recess, a bipartisan group was able to temporarily extend FAA funding that expires in just over a month, and with the $16M in cuts.
Starting to see the pattern here? Republicans are willing to cripple government just to get its way, and by golly, they'll have their cuts.
