Toshiba Excite...sorry.

Sure, the Excite tablet is extremely thin - thinner than any other tablet on the market, and rivaling e-ink readers - and very, very sexy, but Apple just announced the third generation iPad, and they left the Excite in the dust.

The next generation iPad's 16GB / 32GB tablets will be priced $499 / $599 respectively, sporting a 2048 x 1536 pixel display with a 264 ppi density and 10 hours of battery life.

With the Excite priced at $529 / $599 for 16GB / 32GB tablets with just a modest (by comparison) 1280x800 screen and 8 hours of battery life, Toshiba has no choice but to lower its price at least $75, or face immediate obsolescence.

Seriously, you might as well say goodbye to Excite at $529 compared to the new iPad at $499 and the older iPad2 with 16GB now dropping to $399.

The Excite is very sexy, but the next gen iPad undercuts it in price, battery life and screen rez.
