Bachelor's Salsa.

I cannot believe that I just only now had this epiphany while staring at an open can of cut tomatoes from pasta that I made for lunch today.  I call it the Bachelor's Salsa, and here's what you need in stock in your cupboards to make it work:
  • Canned, diced tomatoes (think S&W or Trader Joe's), preferably Mexican style;
  • Sugar;
  • Salt;
  • Garlic powder;
  • Paprika;
  • Green onions (leeks);
  • Hot sauce, or in my case, leftover tomatillo verde hot salsa -- key ingredients are vinegar and peppers.
Mix an equal dash of sugar, paprika and garlic powder (half a teaspoon) combined with slightly more than half a teaspoon of salt, dumped into a serving bowl with a whole can (14.5 oz) of diced tomatoes, two tablespoons of hot sauce (or so), and a tablespoon of finely chopped green onions.

No cooking needed.  Just serve.  And it costs less than half of what you'd pay at the store for something equivalent.

It is so elegantly simple and quick, and tastes a lot better than some market salsas out there, though it won't substitute for freshly made salsa.  Still, it's really awesome bachelor food.

Added bonus: Bachelor's Nachos.
  • Can of Nalley Chili;
  • Can of sliced olives;
  • Jar of sour cream;
  • Bag of shredded cheddar cheese;
  • Bag of tortilla chips;
  • Bachelor's Salsa.
The secret of course, is that the canned chili really does taste like the base of your standard nachos, except that you need to microwave it with the shredded cheddar cheese on it, then add the sliced olives, a dollop of sour cream and of course the Bachelor's Salsa.

Mmmm...tasty.  Perfect for the Super Bowl.
