If I had more time, I'd post a lengthy commentary on it. Instead, here is a quick review.
Today, Donald engaged in what can only be described as a cynically ironic act that is just one more chapter in a tragic comedy.
All this time, Donald has wanted to fire Comey in order to stop the Russian investigation. He got the excuse he needed, by way of his political appointee (Jeff Sessions) who used Comey's poor handling of the revelation of emails on Anthony Weiner's laptop to recommend his dismissal.
That was the cynical part. The ironic part is actually made up of three pieces.
The first piece is the act of firing the person who is investigating you recreates Watergate and the specter of illegality is massively amplified. The second piece is that Comey did what he did to CYA (cover your ass) in the first place, only to end up getting fired. The third piece is the liberal establishment that refused to let Comey off the hook, only to find him indispensable in holding together the investigation against Donald.
The tragic comedy is Donald's life, that a putz could flounder his way into the White House, then flounder his way into American infamy. If he'd stuck to fame and fortune he would have done okay in the history books. By diving into politics, his name will forever be tarnished.
