The other week I wrote about how sad it was that Monica Wehby, running on her background as a doctor as the cred needed to tackle her core issue, the ACA, had delegated the job of writing up her stance on the issue of healthcare. That was a warning sign of worse things to come.
Today, it turns out that her campaign's rewrite cribbed from her primary opponent, Jason Conger.
It's not just that her campaign stole from Conger to write up her position on her website, but that she supposedly wrote her own opinion piece just over two months ago that was submitted to Eugene's Register-Guard, except that large parts of it were also taken directly from Conger's own. Writing up an opinion piece by stealing whole sections from your former opponent -- that's a new low.
It makes you wonder if she's a habitual cheater, stealing the words off others throughout her life. What an absolute embarrassment for the Republican Party of Oregon. I have changed my mind: Jason Conger would have been a much tougher opponent to Jeff Merkley than Monica Wehby -- a person who faked her platform all along.
As much as I want Merkley to win, I also wanted a tougher challenge to keep Democrats from becoming complacent about their day jobs. Absent a strong primary challenge, one would want a strong Republican challenger. When political parties become complacent, they overreach, and I feel that the DPO is flirting with conceit. Everyone should be angry that Wehby turned out to be a sham of a candidate.
